Meet our Directors!

Kaela Schuiteman, Executive and Artistic Director, Director of Coro Dulce and Coro Allegro

Kaela Schuiteman holds a B.M. in Music Education with honors and endorsements in choral and instrumental music from the University of South Dakota. She currently performs with Transept, a professional choral ensemble in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Previously, Kaela has performed with the South Dakota Symphony Chorus, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral as a soloist for weddings and funerals, and with Vocal Artists of Iowa. Kaela also teaches private voice and piano lessons.

In addition to her passion for performing, Kaela finds immense joy in sharing the unique power of music with students of all ages. Kaela has several years of teaching experience that include K-12 vocal music, directing musicals, coaching speech, and teaching private piano and voice lessons. As the Executive and Artistic Director of the Sioux Falls Children’s Choir, Kaela feels incredibly fortunate to fill her evenings sharing her love of music with the talented young musicians in Sioux Falls.

Kaela lives in Sioux Falls with her husband and three children. In her spare time, Kaela enjoys taking her children to the zoo and the Washington Pavilion, going on dates Downtown Sioux Falls with her husband, watching the Kansas City Chiefs every Sunday (and occasionally going to a game!), and going on too many Target runs with her 4-year-old daughter.

Alia Robison, Coro Crescendo Director

Alia Robison is the founder and director of Music in Me, which offers small group music classes and private lessons for ages Birth-18. She also collaborates with micro schools and homeschool co-ops in the area to bring music to their students. Alia serves as the assistant choir and handbell director at her church and has been in charge of their children’s music for the past 10 years. Prior to starting Music in Me, Alia worked as a PreK-5th grade music teacher in the Harrisburg School district.

Growing up, Alia sang in the Sioux Falls Girls Chorale for many years. Through that experience, alongside other musical endeavors, she became confident that she wanted to spend her life sharing her love for music with the community. In college, she had an internship with the Vermillion Children’s Choir and the United Church of Christ’s Children’s Choir. She was a four year member of the USD Chamber Singers and has sang with Transept since its inception in 2016.

Alia is a homeschooling mom of three young kids. Her family enjoys traveling, snowboarding & skiing, rock climbing, and eating ice cream.

Our Choirs

Coro Crescendo “Growing Choir”

(K– 1st Grade)

Coro Crescendo offers young children their first formal introduction to choral singing in a nurturing and encouraging environment. This choir focuses on developing fundamental vocal techniques, fostering a love of music, and building confidence through age-appropriate repertoire and engaging activities. Singers learn foundational skills such as pitch matching, rhythm, and ensemble awareness, laying the groundwork for lifelong musical growth. Coro Crescendo only performs at our Winter and Spring Concerts.

Coro Dulce “Sweet Choir”

(2nd – 3rd Grade)

In Coro Dulce, singers expand upon their foundational skills with an emphasis on tone production, breath control, and the exploration of harmony. This choir nurtures expressive singing and ensemble collaboration, encouraging each member to develop a warm, balanced sound. Through diverse repertoire and focused musicianship, participants enhance their vocal independence and prepare for more advanced choral experiences. Coro Dulce performs at our Winter and Spring Concerts, as well as at least one additional performance each session.

Coro Allegro “Joyful Choir”

(4th – 6th Grade)

Coro Allegro provides an enriching environment for experienced singers to refine their vocal technique and develop sophisticated musicality. This ensemble emphasizes performance skills, sight-reading, and interpretive expression, cultivating confident, dynamic performers. With a diverse and challenging repertoire, members prepare for public performances, fostering a deep appreciation for choral artistry. Coro Allegro performs at both the Winter and Spring Concerts. Coro Allegro requires more time and dedication than the younger choirs in order to prepare for special performances such as the Star-Spangled Banner and as a the feature SFCC choir at other special events.
